How You Can Help
To find an area that interests you, see a list of our committees.
Fair
Trade Items
- Coffee
Purchasing Fair Trade Coffee at the table
in the hall helps in FOUR ways: First, it helps the farmer get a
fair price for his crop; secondly, the UU Service Committee gets
a percentage of each bag sold; thirdly, the profit from our sales
pays for the coffee our congregation uses during our programs; and
fourthly, you benefit from getting Equal Exchange coffee at a lower
cost than you would have to pay at Whole Foods. It’s a win-win-win-win at $7.50/bag and the organic decaf at $8.50!
- Olive Oil
You may now purchase organic cold press extra virgin olive oil at our Fair Trade display for only $13 per bottle (save $3 off suggested list price of $15.99). The oil is robust and peppery with a strong fruit finish, from a non-profit, non-governmental organization in the West Bank.
SOS
Food Bank
We are staffing the Food Bank on the third and fifth Wednesdays of each month. Anyone wishing to join us can contact Allen Somers. According to Allen, in 2011 our congregation donated 2,490 pounds of food and $2,263.00 in cash to the food bank.
Habitat for Humanity
If you are interested in working on the current house, you can register as a volunteer online at Comal County Habitat for Humanity or contact Crystal Moore, Volunteer Coordinator, at 830-625-4025.
Habitat ReStore Boutique
Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Industrial Drive has opened a boutique corner to raise funds for the next WomenBuild. All items sold in the Boutique will be inexpensive handmade items. Our Service Committee has promised to provide inventory for the Boutique, so if you have a hobby making anything by hand, please join us in this effort. You can participate in our group projects or donate things that you have made individually.
We are collecting materials to use in our creations. Leftover fabric, beads, wood or metal pieces, paints and other craft supplies, charms and other small embellishments will be cheerfully accepted. Email Peggy through the church address at ccuusnb@gmail.com for the next craft date or to donate supplies.
HEB Cards
Shop, or buy gas, at HEB? Support CCUUS by buying HEB gift cards - we get three per cent of the total spent. See Kathryn Walker or Ted Mills for HEB
gift cards in $25, $50 or $100 denominations.
